Built Secret Analytics

What it does

Once the channel owner signs in with Google and approves read-only access, the tool collects statistics for the channel’s own videos through the YouTube Analytics API and the YouTube Data API, and combines them with the channel’s own production notes to produce internal reports.

• Per-video statistics: views, engaged views, average view duration, average percentage viewed, likes, subscribers gained and estimated minutes watched.
• Audience-retention curves: how much of each video viewers watch at each point.
• Basic video details: title, publish time and duration, so each set of statistics is matched to the right episode.

What it is for

The channel owner uses the reports to compare episodes, see where viewers keep watching or leave, and decide what to make next. The reports are internal and are not published.

Google permissions requested

Two read-only permissions, and nothing else:

• youtube.readonly: to read video titles, publish times and durations so statistics can be matched to the right video.
• yt-analytics.readonly: to read the channel’s own performance statistics.
• The tool does not ask to upload, edit, delete or manage anything on YouTube, and it does not read comments or information about individual viewers.

Who uses it

Built Secret Analytics is a private tool for one channel. It has no sign-up, no public accounts and no subscriptions, and it is not offered to other creators or the public. The only Google account that authorizes it is the Built Secret channel owner’s.

YouTube API Services

Built Secret Analytics uses YouTube API Services. Users of this application are also bound by the YouTube Terms of Service (opens in a new tab), and Google’s handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab).
